The first will be the last - Tourism
Tourism felt the first impact of the pandemic, will be the last to regain its full capacity and will emerge under new business models.
Since the WHO (World Health Organization) made the pandemic official in 2020, every economy in the world has been impacted by closures and mobility restrictions. Without exception, all sectors were affected, but in particular, tourism was hit the hardest. And although air operations continued, these were only for repatriation flights and transport of essential goods.
The entire tourism chain, starting with ground transportation, airports, hotels or rest houses, up to the largest hotel chains and travel agencies, have been totally limited and accumulating losses that have not been quantified so far.
Warnings about contagion and the lack of regulations - at the beginning - to ensure that the entire chain was safe, have not allowed the industry to reactivate at a faster pace.
The consequences of this situation speak for themselves:
- Elimination of air routes by airlines.
- Total or partial closure of airports (this situation has been normalizing).
- Cancellation of travel reservations.
- Limitation in the capacity inside hotels or parks (to give an example).
- Decrease in payrolls in the sector's companies.
- Definitive closure of some establishments.
Beach tourism, shopping, cultural, gastronomic and family trips, enclose a cluster that occupies jobs for an unlimited number of people.
