Tesla to be the most valuable company added to the S&P500
The current market value of the Tesla company is approximately $659 billion. Approximately $527 billion of that is available for trading. And the total market value of the S&P 500 is approximately $32 trillion.
All those numbers give a weighting of approximately 1.6% for Tesla in the index. Tesla is already the most valuable company ever added. With a 1.6% weighting, Tesla will also become the largest weighting ever added. That title is currently held by Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B). Its original weighting in the S&P 500 was approximately 1.4%. Berkshire was added in 2010.
