The parallel world
Metaverse : a digital world
If we were to define the parallel world or the "metaverse", we would say that it is a digital world that we have flirted with for a long time, whether in books, movies or a video game that allowed you to socialize and shop virtually.
This concept has taken on a new definition for many since last October 2021, when Facebook decided to modify its name (now known as META Platforms) and focus on the development of this new virtual reality technology. Betting on a future based on more immersive experiences to its users, which will allow to unite your real life with the metaverse, including work.
This decision has generated curiosity and momentum for investors and major brands. ncluding non-technology companies to innovate in the metaverse, with a view to unifying customers, partners, employees and suppliers.
McDonald's
The most recent was the world-renowned McDonald's brand, which earlier this month filed an application for ten patents with the US Patent and Trademark Office to take its fast food restaurants and cafeterias into the metaverse.
As a reference to the interest in this new segment, trademark attorney Josh Gerben posted on his Twitter profile that recent applications include a patent to operate "a restaurant offering real and virtual goods." One to offer "downloadable audio, video and non-fungible token (NFT) content...". And another to create "a restaurant offering home delivery" or to 'build' a McCafé that is a concert hall "real and virtual online".
