Vaccination: A challenge half met?
Almost 86 days have passed and Panama is about to reach the 55% of people vaccinated with the complete scheme. In fact, booster doses (third dose) are already being applied to the groups of interest.
Our projection reached 60% and we mentioned at the time that:
"Let's not count the second dose, lest we conclude beforehand that the year falls short."
Our calculations assumed vaccination days from Monday to Sunday, which were only taken into account on some occasions. Likewise, the calculation was based on a start date for immunizations, officially established on March 4, 2021 and with prioritization for groups classified by age and people with chronic diseases, in addition to front-line medical personnel.
The estimated 173 days ended on August 24 and on that date 61% of vaccinees were reached with a single dose, according to data published by https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations?country=PAN.
