Wall Street and Bowie Bonds

Bowie bonds, known as the 'transformation' of intellectual property rights in the form of a bond.

David Robert Jones better known as "David Bowie"was born on January 8, 1947 in Brixton in South London. As a child he always showed great interest in music. He managed to study art, music and design before starting his career as a professional musician in 1963.

He was always considered an innovator in his time, because of his peculiar voice and his musical works in the 70's. An interesting and almost unknown fact about Bowie, is that he is part of the history of the world of investments, and why?

Bowie was responsible for the first issue of "celebrity bonds" or "Bowie Bonds". Thanks to him, a milestone and revolution was created on Wall Street.

They were ABS (asset-backed securities) bonds securitized and backed by the intellectual property of their owner. Simply put: "The royalty rights (intellectual property) secured the bond". The author promised the investor a share of the future profits from the royalties he would collect. In this way he secured the cash flow needed to pay the promised principal and interest.

Bowie Bonds were first issued in 1997, when Bowie partnered with investor David Pullman and Prudential Insurance Company to issue them.
