The U.S. order to ban exports of some advanced chips to China is likely to affect almost any major technology company that operates public clouds or advanced artificial intelligence training modules.

The move is part of a broader government effort to hinder China's access to more sophisticated semiconductors.

Chipmaker Nvidia Corp (NVDA) said Wednesday that U.S. officials told it to stop exporting to China two major computer chips for AI work, the A100 and H100.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) also said it received new licensing requirements that will prevent its advanced AI chip called MI250 from being exported to China.
