Weekly summary from Monday, June 28 to July 02
- The US equity market closed the week at new highs. The S&P500 has recorded seven consecutive sessions at new highs, something not seen since 1997. The leading sectors for the week were technology and consumer discretionary, up 3,24% and 2,07% respectively. The worst performing sectors for the week were energy and financials, which nevertheless continue to be the leading sectors for the first half of the year, with gains of 44,52% and 25,21% respectively.
- In Europe, last week closed positively for the major equity indices. So far in June, the only index that has failed to turn positive is the Ibex 35, with a return of -0.59%. It has highlighted the strength of the financial sector with a gain of 1.85%.

- It is important to mention that on monday, july fifth was a normal day for European and Asian markets. The opening day of the week has been positive for the market in Europe, led by the Ibex 35 with a rise of 0.44% on the day.
- Financial market optimism has been supported by nonfarm payroll figures that increased by 850,000 jobs, a figure that far exceeded expectations of 700,000.
- According to Refinitiv data, historically if the first half of the year in terms of positive returns exceeds double digits, it is a good sign for the second half of the year.

To be taken into account
- Short week for the US equity market after the 4th of July holiday. The main focus will be on the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) minutes. Investors are watching to learn when Fed officials would be willing to begin tapering the asset purchase program and raising interest rates from their current levels.
- The rise in oil prices does not stop, OPEC+ ended talks on Monday five on its production policy, meaning that no agreement was reached on raising the amount of production. Oil prices in the early hours of today's trading reached a six-year high.
- The Prime Minister of England, Boris Johnson, has announced plans to remove social distancing and limited capabilities at events from July 19, arguing that the population has to learn to live with the coronavirus. The final decision will be approved on the 12th of this month by ministers.
- The European Central Bank is at a key moment, as officials seek to find solutions to define its role in the fight against climate change, new parameters for future monetary policy and a new formula for determining the inflation target.

- China's central bank said Monday it would encourage banks to lend more money to small businesses by stabilizing their funding costs and allowing them to tolerate more bad loans.
- The increase in coronavirus cases in Israel, where the vast majority of the population has the Pfizer vaccine, may be showing small signs that the vaccine may be slightly less effective in preventing mild disease than expected due to the new Delta variant.
- The race to go to space has begun. After Jeff Bezos' announcement in which he confirmed that he will be part of the flight of his company Blue Origin on July 20, the founder of Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson, has decided to go ahead and make his space trip on July 11.
- Jeff Bezos has stepped down as CEO of Amazon, the company he founded more than a quarter of a century ago. The position of CEO will be filled by Andy JassyThe company's founder will now occupy the role of executive chairman of its board of directors.
