Weekly summary from January 04 to 08

Major U.S. banks kick off the corporate earnings season. JP Morgan, Citigroup and Wells Fargo will release fourth quarter 2020 results on Friday, January 15. Financial companies' earnings are expected to have fallen -6.6% in the fourth quarter.

The U.S. equity market has started the year on a bullish note. The three main indexes maintained all-time highs.

In Europe, the main financial markets closed the first week of 2021 in positive territory. The ibex35 has achieved its best start to the year since 2014 with a rise of 4%.

To be taken into account

Following the Democratic party's victory in the Georgia election that has returned the blue party to control of the Senate, investors will be watching for news of a new fiscal impulse that would come under President-elect Joe Biden.

The People's Bank of China has mentioned that the monetary policy in 2021 will be specific and flexible. Interest rate cuts have ended, but monetary policy would not be tightened sharply for now.
